UMKC TRACK & FIELD: Frerichs Sets a New Record in the Women’s 3000-Meter Steeplechase‏
The track and field team set career bests all across the board at the Rock Chalk Classic with the women finishing fourth (80 pts), while the men taking fifth (55.50 pts). Courtney Frerichs competed solo at the Payton Jordan Invitational and brought home a first place finish in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase—setting the school record with a career best of 9:32.12 minutes. Her time currently ranks first in the WAC by well over a minute.

Starting the meet off with sixth and eighth place finishes was Kamaya Tucker and Michelle Momo in the women’s 100m dash. Tucker recorded a career best time of 11.96 (third in UMKC history), as Momo crossed the finish line at 12.05 seconds. Each of their times rank second and third in the WAC, respectively.

On the men’s side, UMKC’s record holder in the men’s 100m dash, Daniel Prioleau matched his record time of 10.62 to take sixth place. Kenny Roach followed in eighth place with his time of 10.68—a career best and fourth all-time for UMKC.

Each running career bests in the women’s 200m dash, Michelle Momo grabbed fifth place with her time of 24.61 (UMKC third all-time), as Kamaya Tucker took eighth with a final time of 24.67 seconds (UMKC fourth all-time). Each of their times rank fourth and third in the WAC, respectively.

Also running career bests, Daniel Prioleau and Brady Adams placed tenth and twelfth place, respectively. Prioleau recorded a time of 21.56 seconds, as Adams ran the 200m in 21.64 seconds. Prioleau’s time is second in UMKC history (third in WAC) and Adams’ ranks fourth for UMKC (fourth in WAC).

Chantel Bethune ran a career best in the women’s 400m with her time of 55.70 seconds—third all-time for UMKC and currently fourth in the WAC.

In the women’s 800m run, Brooke Guiot finished the laps with a season best of 2:13.69 minutes—second all-time in UMKC history and fifth in the WAC.

For the women and men’s 1500-meter run, Elizabeth Nolke grabbed a sixth place finish with her time of 4:43.95—a career best and UMKC fifth all-time. Bryce Miller and Taylor Wardall each came in third and fourth place, respectively. Miller had a career best with his final time of 3:52.02 (UMKC second all-time and fifth in the WAC), while Wardall ran the race in 3:53.83 minutes (UMKC fourth all-time).

Scoring points in the women’s 5000-meter race, Megan Mills took eighth place with her time of 18:01.9—a career best. Quinlan Moll placed eighth as well for the men with his time of 15:05.73 minutes—also a career best.

Now ranking first in the WAC for the women’s 100-meter hurdles, Mallory Short ran a career best recording a finish at 14.03 seconds to take fifth place. This ranks second all-time in the UMKC record books. Sydia Darker placed seventh with her time of 14.29—a career best, UMKC second all-time, and fourth in the WAC.

Sydia Darker also placed fifth in the women’s 400-meter hurdles with her season best time of 1:03.12. Patricia Miller followed in seventh, crossing the finish line at 1:04.47.

Joshua Schirmer placed eighth with his career best of 14.85 in the men’s 110-meter hurdles. His time ranks fifth in the WAC.

For the men’s 400-meter hurdles, Zak Snow finished in third with a career best of 53.39 seconds—second in the WAC. Terrone Garner grabbed fifth, crossing the finish line at 54.05.

Out of more than forty opponents, Courtney Frerichs earned first place in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase at the Payton Jordan Invitational in Stanford, Cal. She crossed the finish line with a career best of 9:32.12 minutes—new school record and first in the WAC by well over a minute.

Sarah Fogarty grabbed a second place finish in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase at the Rock Chalk Classic with her time of 10:53.03 minutes—a career best, second in UMKC history, and second in the WAC. Gabrielle Penaflor came in fifth with her career best of 11:35.57—fourth in UMKC record books.

The men’s 4x100m relay team involving Kenny Roach, Eric Yarbrough, Brady Adams, and Daniel Prioleau placed fourth with their time of 41.73 seconds (third in the WAC).

In the jumping events, Traci Mills leaped a career best of 5.79m to take fourth place in the women’s long jump. Michelle Momo took fifth with her mark of 5.78m. Each of their marks rank second and third in the WAC, respectively.

On the men’s side, Jason Martin grabbed a seventh place finish in the men’s long jump with his leap of 6.74m—a season best.

Joshua Harden earned second place in the men’s triple jump with his final mark of 14.79m, while Jason Martin leaped 14.36m (career best) to take fifth.

Having solid finishes in the women’s throwing events, Dahlia Dyson took third in shot (13.42m), eighth in disc (43.04m), and third in the hammer (53.00m)—a career best. Also to place in the women’s hammer was Kelsey Benoit (50.34m) and Yasmin Musaddiq (49.54m)—a season best for Benoit and a career best for Musaddiq. Dyson’s career best in the hammer throw now ranks second in the WAC and third in the UMKC record books.

Kris Leverette earned seventh in the men’s hammer throw with his launch of 52.90m, while Blake Hocking took twelfth in the men’s discus with a career best of 48.15m—second in the WAC and fourth all-time for UMKC.
