UMKC Close Out Regular Home Season With 3-0 Win Over Cougars

On Senior Night, when UMKC volleyball honored its sixth departing seniors, the ‘Roos picked up a 3-0 win over Chicago State at the Swinney Recreation Center.

Madison Mosier led the Kangaroo attack hitting a team best .591 with 14 kills as the ‘Roos hit .402 as a team. In her last regular season home match, Jessica Hendin hit a season-high .364 with 10 kills and five digs, while classmate Taryn Miller topped the team with 14 digs and five assists.

With the win, UMKC improves to 13-11 overall and 6-6 in the WAC, while Chicago State slips to 1-25 on the season and 0-12 in the conference.

The ‘Roos jumped out to a 1-0 lead with an opening set win, using a 7-0 run, featuring four kills from Hendin, to build a 16-7 lead. UMKC would stretch the lead to 13 on three more occasions, including the final score when senior Sydney Crimmins capped the win 25-12.

In the second set, UMKC led by just three late at 17-14, but five straight from the ‘Roos pushed the lead to five. The Cougars would trim the deficit to seven but back-to-back kills from Crimmins and Emma Dyer sent the ‘Roos to 25-16 set win to give them a 2-0 lead at the intermission.

In the final set, the UMKC held an 18-17 lead late before stretching the lead to 23-19 on an ace from senior Skyler Muff. Mosier and Hendin then finished the match off with back-to-back kills giving the ‘Roos a 25-21 win.

Senior setter Nicole Wemhoff led the squad with 21 assists, to go along with eight digs, two aces and two kills, while her setting partner Kaylyn Brandt chipped in 20 assists and two digs.

Crimmins finished the match hitting .429 with nine kills, five blocks, including two solo, and two digs and Meagan Kerns finished with six kills, hitting a career-high .545.

Senior Lindsay Zych chipped in seven digs and a kill and Muff added three kills, two digs a block and an ace.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Thursday when they head to Bakersfield, Calif., to take on the Roadrunners at 9 p.m. CT
