Tennessee guard Andraya Carter wants to be known as more than a defensive stopper.
Carter, who leads the Southeastern Conference with 2.8 steals per game, has averaged a team-high 17.5 points in the Lady Volunteers’ two league games after scoring just 6 points per game during their nonconference schedule.
The 5-foot-9 sophomore will try to maintain her momentum Thursday as No. 7 Tennessee (12-2, 2-0 SEC) hosts No. 9 Texas A&M (14-2, 2-0). Carter continues focusing primarily on defense and hustle, but she realizes the importance of contributing on both ends of the floor.
Her emergence has helped Tennessee withstand the recent foul trouble of senior center Isabelle Harrison, who has scored a total of five points in the Lady Vols’ past two games.
