In this interview with Dillard University head men’s basketball coach Joseph Price, we discuss his coaching career in general, and he shares a bit about his background as a top high school athlete, his time at Notre Dame University playing for Digger Phelps, and his professional basketball career that spanned over a decade. Price played college basketball at Notre Dame under coach Digger Phelps in the 1980s and later had a professional basketball career overseas for 13 years. He began his coaching career as an assistant at IUPUI, where he helped the team reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time. He has also held assistant coaching positions at Ball State, Morehead State, and Lamar University.
At Grambling State, Price faced significant challenges, including NCAA sanctions, but he built a strong foundation for the program. During his tenure at Central State, he led the team to its first SIAC West Division title in 2018 and developed several HBCU All-Americans and all-conference selections.
We also discuss his first season at Dillard and what he looks forward to in the 2024-2025 season. Additionally, we review some of the players on the current roster. It is a very informative interview.
