Sydney Crimmins hit .583 with 14 kills, four blocks and four digs to lead UMKC volleyball to a 3-0 sweep over WAC foe Chicago State on Friday night at the Jacoby Dickens Center in Chicago, Ill.

Jessica Hendin chipped in nine kills at a .333 clip for the ‘Roos, who improve to 10-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference, while as a team, UMKC hit .363 with 8.5 blocks.

Early in set one, Kansas City broke a 3-3 tie with three straight points on two of Skyler Muff’s four kills and an ace from Brianna Starr. UMKC would stretch the lead to as many as nine at 17-8 after back-to-back kills from Madison Mosier and Starr. A kill from Crimmins, off one of Kaylyn Brandt’s 21 assists meanwhile, sent the ‘Roos to a 25-17 first set win.

In set two, the score was again tied early, this time at 6-6 when a 9-1 UMKC rally, featuring a kill each from Hendin and Emma Dyer, pushed the ‘Roos advantage to 15-7. The Cougars, who fell to 1-17 on the season and 0-5 in the WAC, would only get to within seven the rest of the way before the ‘Roos closed it out 25-14.

In the final set, the Cougars hung tight throughout the set, trailing by just two late at 19-17, but two straight Crimmins kills pushed the lead to four. CSU would cut the deficit to 22-19, but a kill from Hendin and an ace from Crimmins stretched the lead to four before Mosier ended the match with a kill off an assist from Nicole Wemhoff.

For the ‘Roos, Starr finished with 10 digs, five kills, three assists, an ace and a block, while in the back row, Taryn Miller notched a team-high 16 digs. Mosier, meanwhile, tallied seven kills, hitting .286, with three blocks and two digs.
