UMKC Courtney Frerichs has been named the Western Athletic Conference women’s track and field Athlete of the week for December 8-14.
Frerichs, a senior from Nixa, Mo. (Nixa HS), opened her indoor season with a victory in the 5000 meter run at the Hoosier Open in Bloomington, Ind. Frerichs not only beat the Roo’s school record by 31 seconds with a time of 15:48, but crushed a 15-year old WAC record (16:09) in the process. Her time ranks fourth fastest in the nation this season and should comfortably qualifier her for the indoor NCAA championships in March.

Other track and field nominees for the ‘Roos included Kenny Roach, Blake Hocking, and Briana Carter.
