I just watched the best high school football game that I’ve ever seen in my 46-year-old life! Just so happened it was in my hometown, Wichita, Ks. The Derby Panthers (#1 in 6A) vs. Maize Eagles (#5 in 5A); came down to the wire and ended with a Derby win, 42-41. The stars were shining, Derby’s 4 Star multi-purpose running back, Dylan Edwards; had 300 total yards, and 3Td’s in the win. Maize high’s Avery Johnson(the #2 Dual-threat QB in the country), lived up to the hype, with almost 300 yards passing and over 100 yards rushing. Numerous breakout stars arose in the game as well; Daeshaun Carter(Maize) had 130yds and 2Td’s. Maize WR’s, Bryce Cohoon, and Justin Steven’s; both had over 100 yards and made big plays all game. I saw 10-15 future scholarship-ready players on that field Friday; Corey Akins, Cael Moses, Sammy Same, Mitchell Johnson, Cael Miranda, Cole Chalastari, and a few others. The coaches and players should be applauded for the show they put on for this packed house.
