Cascade Sports HBCU Series Presents: Raymond Broughton Assistant Men’s Coach at Elizabeth City State


Cascade Sports recently interviewed Raymond Broughton, who is entering his third season as an assistant coach for the Elizabeth City State University Vikings. With over 23 years of military experience and more than a decade of coaching at various levels, Broughton brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to the team.
Before joining Elizabeth City State University, Broughton served as an assistant coach at Fayetteville State for three seasons and led the Prince George High School Girls Basketball team in Virginia to an impressive 85-9 record over four seasons. He also coached a 17 and up AAU team during that time.
Broughton’s 23-year military career saw him rise to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer-3, with four tours in Iraq. His leadership and discipline are evident in his coaching style and player development.
In addition to his military and coaching background, Broughton founded and coached the Oki Ice Basketball Club in Okinawa, Japan, and led the Kadena Boys High School Basketball team to a Far East Championship in 2010. He began coaching on the AAU circuit in Colorado in 2005 and has coordinated summer basketball programs and fundamental technique sessions for numerous players.
A native of Jacksonville, FL, Broughton holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Ashford University. He and his wife, Teameco, reside in Fayetteville, NC, with their six children.
