Cascade Sports recently interviewed Coach Richardson, the head men’s basketball coach at Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina. With nearly two decades of Division I coaching experience, including 16 years at Old Dominion University and two years at Virginia Tech, Richardson has significantly impacted college basketball.
Before his collegiate coaching career, Richardson led Woodside High School to back-to-back Virginia High School League State Championships in 2004 and 2005. At ODU, Silverwares Media recognized him as one of the top 50 Most Impactful Assistant Coaches and one of the Top 5 Men’s Basketball Assistants in the C-USA conference in 2020 and 2022. His achievements also include a regular season and tournament championship, an NCAA tournament berth in 2019, and a conference championship in 2010.
Richardson is passionate about helping his students achieve both academic and athletic success. He believes being a champion in competition, the classroom, and the community is essential for any educational institution.
“My mission has always been and will continue to be to positively impact the futures of our athletes by focusing on three pillars – social well-being, academic, and athletic development,” Richardson shared during the interview.
