Paulk entering his fifth season as the head women’s volleyball coach at Shaw University, has established himself as a transformative figure in the program’s history. With the highest win percentage in Shaw’s volleyball history, Coach Paulk’s tenure is marked by remarkable achievements and a commitment to excellence.
Under his leadership, the Lady Bears have consistently dominated the CIAA, securing three consecutive regular-season and division championships. Paulk’s strategic insight and motivational prowess led Shaw to its first-ever NCAA Tournament first-round victory in the Atlantic Region, a historic milestone achieved through a dramatic reverse sweep of Wheeling University.
Coach Paulk’s accolades include being named the AVCA Atlantic Region Coach of the Year and the CIAA Coach of the Year, honors that reflect his exceptional coaching abilities. His players have thrived under his guidance, earning numerous individual awards, including seven CIAA Player of the Year titles and multiple All-Conference selections.
The 2023 season was particularly noteworthy, with the Lady Bears finishing with a 31-6 overall record and an undefeated 18-0 conference record. Shaw led the nation in Aces per Set for the third consecutive season and achieved top national rankings in several other statistical categories.
Beyond his success at Shaw, Paulk’s coaching journey includes impactful stints at Louisburg College and North Carolina Central University. He is also the Co-Founder and Director of Training for Carolina Advantage Volleyball, further showcasing his dedication to developing volleyball talent.
Coach Paulk’s playing career at NC State, where he earned accolades as a setter and outside hitter, laid the foundation for his coaching philosophy. His experience in indoor and beach volleyball has equipped him with a diverse skill set that he imparts to his athletes.
