Conference USA freshman of the year Torin Dorn is headed to North Carolina State.

Dorn spent last season at Charlotte and was the 49ers’ leading scorer, but decided to transfer after a coaching change. In an interview with The Associated Press on Monday, Dorn says he chose the Wolfpack because of a desire to stay in his home state and due to coach Mark Gottfried’s successful history with transfers.

Dorn, whose father played football at rival North Carolina and in the NFL, averaged 12 points last year. The 6-foot-5 native of Charlotte must sit out this season, but will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Dorn says he also considered Miami before informing Wolfpack coaches of his decision Sunday.
