Diaz Ties School Record, Leads ‘UMKC To 6th Place Finish

Cynthia Diaz fired a school record tying 219 at the Chip-N Club Invitational to tie for 10th at the Country Club of Lincoln and lead the UMKC women’s golf team to a sixth place finish in the 13 team field with a 914 that ranks as the fourth best score in school history.

In the opening round, Diaz shot an even par 72 with five birdies, including back-to-back on 17 and 18. The freshman matched her score in round two, carding three birdies in the round, registering her second straight on both the par-4 1st and the par-3 14th. Diaz then closed out the event on Tuesday with a final round 75, highlighted by her lone birdie on the par-5 13th.

Fellow Colombian Maria Henao tied for 24th in the event, starting off with an up-and-down round one 77 that included five birdies with back-to-back on both the 1st and 2nd and the 16th and 17th. Henao followed with a 75 in the second round, with three birdies, including her second straight on both the 2nd and 17th. In the third round, the second-year ‘Roo shot a 78 that featured her third straight birdie on No. 2 and placed her at +14.

In her second event as a ‘Roo, Chandler Gallagher finished in 36th at +18 after a five birdie tournament that included two on the 2nd, while Mackenzie Black was two shots back in 42nd after matching Gallagher’s five birdies.

Madison Wolff, meanwhile, rounded out the lineup in 52nd, carding a single birdie in each round, while Kailee Kuehn tied for 24th as an individual after a second round that included four of her seven birdies.

Notre Dame was the team champion in the event, defeating South Dakota State by 30 shots, while Kansas’ Yupaporn Kawinpakorn was the individual winner at -4.
