Mitch Tucker holds the individual lead at -4 and teammate Antoine Rozner is one shot back at -3, as the Missouri-Kansas City is tied with New Mexico State for the team lead at -1 after the first day of play at the 2015 WAC Championship.
Tucker came out the gate hot at the Wigwam Golf Course birdieing the par-5 1st and the par-5 4th, two holes later. After three straight pars, Tucker birdied four of the next five holes to move to -6 before two late bogies dropped him back to -4.
Rozner matched Tucker with birdies on the 1st and 4th holes, but added a pair of bogies to hit the turn at even par. On the back nine, the Paris, France, native birdied three of the first five holes, before tallying his sixth and final birdie on the par-4 17th to move to -3.
Thibault Vieilledent and Jack Hermeston, meanwhile, both fired 75’s on the opening day of play to sit at +3 in a tie for 23rd. Vieilledent finished with a pair of birdies on an up-and-down front nine before steadying out his play on the back nine, where he parred all nine holes, while Hermeston opened the day with a birdie on the par-5 1st before adding his second first day birdie on the par-4 12th.
Cameron Wiltse rounded out the UMKC lineup with an 80 that has him sitting in a tie for 36th.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. CT when they tee-off in the second round of play at the Wigwam Golf Course.
