UMKC Women’s Golf 5th Place Finish In Arkansas‏

The Missouri-Kansas City women’s golf team continued its best spring in school history as the ‘Roos tied for fifth during their annual trip to the UALR Golf Classic in Maumelle, Ark., at the Maumelle Country Club.

The ‘Roos opened the event with a first round 316 on Monday and followed later in the day with a second round 293 that set a new school record by six strokes and stood as the lowest score by any team in any of the three rounds. In Tuesday’s final round, the Kangaroos carded a 312 to finish at +57 with a 922 that ranks as the sixth best 54-hole tournament score in the UMKC annals.

Leading the ‘Roos in the return to her home state, senior Micah Radler finished a career-best tied for fifth with a career-low 227. After opening the tournament with a 77 in the first round, Radler came back and shot the lowest score of her career and lowest score of any ‘Roo this season with a 71 that ties for the seventh lowest round ever by a Kangaroo and was one of only two rounds under par by any of the 84 golfers in the field. The Arkansas native then closed out the event with a final round 79 that left her at +11 over the three rounds.

Notching the ‘Roos second top-20 finish in the event, sophomore Mackenzie Black finished in a tie for 19th with rounds of 82, 73 and 76 to send to her to the clubhouse at +15, with the second round 73 standing as the lowest round in the Independence, Iowa, native’s career.

Finishing four shots back, senior Susan Kirschenman tied for 39th after rounds of 77, 81 and 77 to place her at +19, while sophomore Abbey Campbell tied for 48th at +21 with rounds of 82, 75 and 80.

Maria Henao, meanwhile, rounded out the UMKC lineup in a tie for 57th, firing rounds of 80, 74 and 87 to finish at +25.

Playing as individuals, meanwhile, Kailee Kuehn (88-83-81=252) and Jordan Rehkow (81-85-88=254) finished tied for 74th and 79th, respectively.

Central Arkansas took home the team title in the event with a three round score of 907 after defeating host UALR in a playoff, while the Sugar Bear’s Fernanda Lira was the individual medalist at +3, four shots better than the Trojan’s Hannah Ward.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Monday when they welcome in teams to the Shoal Creek Golf Club as they host the annual Kansas City Shootout presented by Gary Crossley Ford on Apr. 6-7.
