The UMKC women’s tennis squad jumped out early but couldn’t hold on Friday in Chicago against defending WAC Champion New Mexico State, falling 4-3.
The Roos (6-12, 1-2 WAC) battled to grab the doubles point, dropping the match at No. 2, before storming back to take wins at Nos. 1 and 3. The clinching point came from Linda Ammar Mouhoub and Marina Albert, taking a 6-4 win.
In singles play, the Aggies (8-7, 3-0 WAC) tied the match at 1-1 when they took a straight set victory at No. 2, but the Roos battled back with an Albert win at No. 3 and another straight set win at No. 4 from Raquel Argenal, making it 3-1. NMSU closed out the match with three straight wins though, all in straight sets, getting the clincher at the No. 1 position.
The Roos will face Grand Canyon on Saturday afternoon in the second of three matches in Chicago this weekend.
